Roland’s workhorse SPD-20 has been updated, with the Octapad SPD-20 PRO offering more responsive playability, additional sounds and functions, and an updated user interface.

In addition to the original SPD-20 sounds, the new product boasts new sounds covering Asian, African, Latin and many other world music styles. There are also traditional drum kit sounds, including high-end acoustic drums and cymbals originally developed for the TD-27 V-Drums sound module, taking the instrument total to 900 sounds.

All sounds can be modified with adjustments to EQ, compression and three onboard effects engines — each with 38 multi-effects types.

The SPD-20 PRO has eight sensitive rubber pads as well as four dual-trigger inputs and a dedicated hi-hat control input. This allows users to build an expanded percussion set-up with a variety of optional Roland trigger pads, including mesh-head V-Pads, V-Cymbals and the BT-1 Bar Trigger Pad.
