BFD 3.5 reviewed

BFD recently released an update of its drum VST, dropping BFD 3.5. Allan Leibowitz checked out the new, expanded version. FXpansion’s BFD 3 was launched back in 2013, so it certainly has been a long time between drinks and much has changed in the VST space in the past dozen years. When BFD 3 was launched, internet bandwidth was still limited, so some of us actually got the 41 GB package on a USB stick. Now, the update, which weighs in at over 55 GB, is only available via download, using the inMusic Software Center as the delivery mechanism. BFD 3.5 released

BFD has released an update of its drum VST, just dropping BFD 3.5. The new version introduces an enhanced engine and “best-in-class features designed to push realism and sonic customisation even further”. There’s a redesigned workflow, a range of new kits, mix-ready presets and advanced modelling technology for tom resonance and cymbal swells. The new version also boasts a new mixer and sound browser, Apple Silicon AAX support, cross-platform VST 3 compatibility and a new Microphone Inspector panel. The Core library features 51 kits and 60 mix-ready preset BFD kits, along with 48 high-quality audio effects and flexible multi-mic control. Addictive Drums 2 overhauled

Addictive Drums has long been a recommended VST for e-drummers because of its small footprint, easy-to-use stand-alone player, wide variety of sounds and reasonable cost. Roland updates TR-8S and TR-6S

Roland has released significant system updates for the popular TR-8S and TR-6S Rhythm Performer products. Available as free downloads, TR-8S Version 3.0 and TR-6S Version 2.0 feature an authentic ACB model of the CR-78 CompuRhythm, Roland’s iconic rhythm machine from the late 1970s, plus a new TR-808 Chromatic Bass instrument for creating bass lines. Roland updates TD-17/TD-27 software

The software enhancements included in Roland’s updated TD-17 and TD-27 kits are now available as updates for existing Version 1 owners. The updates bring trigger compatibility with Roland’s newest pads and cymbals as well as new sounds – and more sound-shaping tools and expanded ambience options. The TD-27 module gets 10 additional preset kits and newly enhanced versions of the three most popular kits from the original release. New pre-loaded samples are also available for combining with preset kits or your own custom set-ups. Layering features have been expanded, while parallel compression options iand transient shaping enhancements provide even greater sound control.
