Simmons adds full-size kick, cymbals

Simmons kits to date have been characterised by their compact pads and cymbals, but the company is making a bold move with the imminent release of some full-size metal cymbals and an 18” wood shell electronic bass drum.

The KP180 has been designed to give e-drummers an acoustic bass drum experience while accommodating the space limitations of most drum racks.

One notable feature is the ability to adjust the position of the internal trigger surface with minimal effort and limited tools.

E-drum owners will also be interested in Simmons’ new line of cymbals. The MC13, MC16 and MC18 are unlike anything else currently on the market.

They are based on low-volume metal cymbals but also include a built-in rubber mute pad.

All three cymbals in the range feature three playing zones (bell, bow and edge) and a choke, making them suitable replacements for most existing ride or crash cymbals.

Unlike other after-market cymbal offerings, the Simmons products come with very detailed trigger settings indicating compatibility with all the popular module brands out there, offering both single- or dual-cable configurations.

According to Simmons, the MC13, MC16 and MC18 are “crafted to provide the size, look and feel of acoustic cymbals, making them a perfect upgrade for your electronic drum kit”.

The metal electronic cymbal pads replicate the weight and responsiveness of acoustic cymbals, allowing you to focus on your performance.

The rubber playing surface ensures quiet operation during recording or practice sessions, Simmons adds.

The new products will go on sale in early October, with the KP180 selling for $249 and the cymbals ranging from $99.99 to $149.99 for the 18”.
