Akai boosts production power with MPC One G2

Akai Professional has unveiled the MPC One G2, a significantly upgraded version of its popular stand-alone music production workstation, delivering four times the processing power of its predecessor while retaining the compact desktop format that has made the MPC One a favourite among beatmakers, producers and hybrid performers.

Available immediately, the MPC One G2 features a new 8-core processor, 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. According to Akai, the hardware upgrade enables dramatically faster load times, larger project capacity and support for up to 32 simultaneous plug-in instruments and 16 stereo audio tracks in stand-alone operation.

For drummers using electronic kits alongside backing tracks, samples and virtual instruments, the increased processing headroom could make the MPC One G2 an attractive centrepiece for live and studio setups.

The new model runs Akai’s MPC3 operating system, which introduces a full Linear Arranger, expanded track-based workflows and a built-in oscillator engine. The platform is designed to allow users to sequence, arrange and mix complete productions without the need for a computer.

The MPC One G2 retains the familiar MPC workflow centred around 16 velocity- and pressure-sensitive RGB pads, supported by four touch-sensitive Q-Link control knobs and a seven-inch colour touchscreen.

Connectivity has also received a significant update. A new USB-C implementation supports 24×24 multichannel audio streaming, expanded MIDI routing and host/device functionality over a single cable. The unit can also sample directly from phones, tablets and other external devices via USB-C.

For users integrating drum modules, synths or modular gear, the MPC One G2 includes five-pin MIDI input and output, four TRS CV/Gate jacks providing eight outputs, a USB-A port and an SD card slot.

The new hardware ships with more than 20 GB of bundled sounds, instruments and expansion content. Included are 11 instrument plugins, among them Hype, Mellotron, Odyssey, Solina, Tubesynth and Drumsynth, as well as nine expansion packs covering acoustic drums, classic drum machines, percussion and production-ready kits.

Akai is also bundling Native Instruments’ Analog Dreams MPC Edition at launch, adding a collection of vintage-inspired synthesizer sounds to the package.

An optional Pro Pack expands the platform further with advanced production features including stem separation, enhanced time-stretching capabilities and Clip Matrix performance tools.

Visually, the MPC One G2 takes inspiration from the classic MPC4000 and MPC1000, adopting a distinctive blue colour scheme that pays homage to some of Akai’s most iconic production hardware.

The MPC One G2 is available now through authorised Akai dealers worldwide at a suggested retail price of US$799.
