DWe offered with V-Cymbals

If there’s been one criticism of DWe Drums, it’s been the acoustic noise of the metal cymbals. Now, DW is addressing this by offering the kits paired with Roland’s V-Cymbal pads. At the heart of the new offering is Roland’s DrumLink system which brings wireless trigger support to Roland analogue cymbals, drum pads and triggers. When paired with the DWe DrumLink Wireless Hub, the WT-10 Wireless Trigger Adapter converts a wired pad to wireless, streamlining connectivity for DWe kit owners to integrate Roland pads within their kit. The trigger adapters accept two trigger inputs, allowing users to connect either a dual-zone cymbal or pad or two different single-zone pads. The new cymbal packs feature three- or four-piece options with CY-16R-T […]

The facts behind DWe

Ever since Drum Workshop’s unveiling of its wireless acoustic/electronic convertible drum set, there has been lots of speculation and discussion. The initial press release and the public unveiling were quite thin on details, so here are the facts around the project, drawn from information shared at the official release, public record documents and digitalDrummer’s archives. DWe is not a product of DW’s purchase by Roland Work on DWe began long before Roland’s acquisition of DW in September. DWe was originally flagged at Musikmesse in 2018 as a collaboration between DW and GEWA. At the time, DW was planning to provide trigger shells, hardware and rack systems to combine with GEWA’s G9 Drum Workstation, electronic pads and cymbals. DWe wireless technology […]

The missing wireless element

The rise of wireless solutions is seeing more Zendrummers cut their ties to the merge brick and go hands-free. Those with some forethought ordered the 9v battery option when they had their instrument built. This means they are able to power their Zendrum from a battery rather than being forced to use the merge brick. If you hadn’t chosen that option, powering the instrument could be tricky. Yes, there are DIY hacks to connect a battery to a MIDI cable, but Zendrum does not recommend this approach – on the contrary, there have been specific warnings against this. So, a not-so-new solution, the Chris de Haas Battery Box Adaptor, is again showing its worth. The adaptor was developed by de […]

DWe revealed

Drum Workshop has revealed its new electronic drum product – a wireless acoustic/electronic convertible drum set. Under development for several years, the company says DWe is designed to blur the lines between acoustic and electronic drums and deliver a natural playing experience. Launching in 2023 and manufactured in DW’s California custom shop, DWe will represent true acoustic to electronic convertibility with wireless connectivity, three-zone metal cymbals and a premium sample library. “DWe will deliver the most authentic playing experience in the market for drummers whether played acoustically or electronically,” says John Good, senior executive vice president and co-founder of Drum Workshop. “Our focus has always been helping drummers elevate their craft by delivering new innovation, and DWe is no exception.” […]

A smart wireless MIDI solution

CME, which released the ultra-compact WIDI in 2020, has followed up with more wireless Bluetooth solutions. When we reviewed the original WIDI Master in November 2020, we tested the “virtual MIDI cable” in various configurations – using different modules to output MIDI to a MacBook Pro running VSTs and to GarageBand on an iPad. We used it to output MIDI from a range of modules and found it to be almost universally effective. The WIDI Master is a tiny transmitter that plugs into the five-pin MIDI jack on any instrument or audio device. The WIDI is powered by the host device and has a tiny separate receiver unit that plugs into the MIDI In jack of the host. It advances […]
