British music technology maker Novation has introduced the Launch Control XL 3, a redesigned compact MIDI control surface aimed at producers and performers seeking hands-on control over DAWs and external gear.
The new model updates the long-standing Launch Control line with a mix of physical controls and workflow enhancements while retaining a focus on broad compatibility and flexible configuration.
Expanded controls and features
The Launch Control XL 3 retains the layout familiar to users of earlier versions but introduces several notable enhancements:
- Eight 60 mm faders for mixer control or continuous parameter adjustment.
- 24 endless rotary encoders with RGB LED feedback for parameter tweaks.
- 16 assignable buttons that can be mapped to functions such as mute/solo, track selection or custom commands.
- A 128×64 OLED display providing real-time parameter readouts.
- Dedicated transport controls (play, stop, record) and page/function buttons for navigation.
Connectivity and workflow
Launch Control XL 3 connects via USB-C for MIDI and power, and includes full five-pin MIDI In, Out and Thru ports, making it suitable for hybrid setups that combine DAWs with hardware synthesisers and effects.
The controller supports up to 15 user-definable “Custom Modes” that can be stored onboard and recalled without software, allowing different templates for specific DAWs or hardware configurations.
Integration templates are available for major DAWs including Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Cubase, FL Studio and others, with real-time feedback and parameter mapping via Novation’s Components software.
Pricing and availability
The Launch Control XL 3 is priced broadly in line with Novation’s previous control surfaces (US$249.99/£189.99/€193) and is available from Novation’s website and authorised retailers. Units are already available and product demonstrations are under way at trade shows such as Superbooth.
