Steven Slate Drums goes back to the ‘70s

Steven Slate Drums has released Classic 70s, a new expansion pack for its SSD and Trigger platforms that takes a notably purist approach to period drum sounds.

Rather than modelling or approximating the analogue warmth of the era, the expansion was recorded at two studios with genuine claims to the decade’s greatest records. The Village Recorder in Los Angeles was where Ken Caillat engineered Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours, recorded using a vintage API console, and later Tusk, recorded on a Neve. Both consoles were used for tracking of Classic 70s.

The second location, Boulevard Recording, formerly known as Producer’s Workshop, hosted sessions for Pink Floyd’s The Wall, Steely Dan’s Aja and Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours, and was used here for both its live room and its dry isolation booth.

Engineers Ken Caillat and Marc Daniel Nelson handled the sessions, with the brief being total authenticity: vintage microphones, vintage consoles and vintage drum kits.

The library ships with four kicks, nine snares, 12 toms, two hi-hats, two rides and 10 crashes, presented as mix-ready presets including the Peach Kit, Dirty Fats Kit, Vision and Fantasy Kit and Hit Maker Kit. It is compatible with both SSD5.5 and Trigger 2 Platinum, and is available as separate versions for each platform or as a bundle.

Classic 70s is available now at an introductory price of US$79, reduced from the regular US$99, for a limited period.
