Guitar Center has unveiled the Simmons Titan 90, described as the most advanced electronic drum kit Simmons has produced in nearly five decades of building electronic drums.
Developed with input from Simmons founder Dave Simmons, the Titan 90 is positioned as a flagship model aimed at serious drummers who want professional-grade features without a premium price tag. Guitar Center CEO Gabe Dalporto says the company built “the best e-kit in Simmons’ history, and that nothing else at this price point comes close”.
For digitalDrummer readers, the standout feature is the 12” TruMotion hi-hat. Rather than the single pad-and-controller set-up common on kits in this price bracket, the TruMotion hi-hat is a genuine two-piece design, top and bottom cymbals moving together on a stand. A patent-pending magnetic sensing system, also developed with Dave Simmons, reads the movement of the cymbals to capture open, closed and half-open positions along with edge, bow and bell articulation. It is the kind of detail that has historically separated higher-end e-kits from entry-level ones, and its arrival at this price point is significant.
The 12” mesh snare uses Simmons’ Zone Intelligence technology, tracking dynamics from centre to rim to mimic the response of an acoustic snare. Four 10” dual-zone mesh toms use what Simmons calls an “open-bottom Titan design”, paired with a seven-inch kick tower.
Cymbals extend beyond the hi-hat, with two 12” triple-zone crashes and a 14” triple-zone ride.
At the centre of the kit is the new Titan 90 module, built around a five-inch colour display with five dedicated mixing faders. It ships with 100 drum sets and 672 drum sounds, and supports app- and computer-based editing for tones, mixes and samples. Connectivity includes Bluetooth audio and MIDI, USB audio and MIDI, and sample import and integration with the Simmons app for iOS and Android.
The Titan 90 is available now, exclusively at Guitar Center, for $1,099.99.
