When digitalDrummer editor Allan Leibowitz first attended the UK Drum Show, electronic percussion was little more than a curiosity tucked away in the corners of the exhibition hall. This year, it was hard to miss, with at least three dedicated performance spaces, including the digitalDrummer E-drum Labs. Speaking with Ollie Winiberg on the UK Drum Show Podcast, Leibowitz reflected on how far...
In the 1990s, Lee Murray was touring the world, topping the charts as the drummer for UK pop sensation Let Loose. The band’s hits like Crazy for You and Seventeen made them household names—but for Murray, the real rhythm of his life was only just beginning. Today, he’s swapped arenas for classrooms, using electronic drums not just as a musical tool, but as a means of connection, therapy, and...
digitalDrummer has been following drumbeam from its experimental phase through its Kickstarter progress. Now that production units are shipping, we managed to get our hands on a full version to see (and hear) what this intriguing new instrument can do. First, let’s clarify what the drumbeam is and who it’s for. In the developers’ words, “drumbeam is a compact MIDI controller that...

The new DWe Side Snare Drum Bundle consists of a compact and acoustic-electronic convertible 5×10″ Maple snare paired with a DrumLink Wireless Hub...
In the ever-evolving world of electronic percussion, where modules get smarter and pads get more expressive with every product cycle, it’s easy to forget where it all began. But for a dedicated community of drummers, the origin story of the electronic kit isn’t a footnote — it’s an ongoing aural and tactile experience. For these players, the iconic hexagonal pads and distinct analogue sound...

This directly addresses a common...
Okay, so we’ve been banging on about stem separation for some years now – all because e-drummers are constantly asking digitalDrummer about sources of drumless tracks. As we have reported in the past, the mainstream story began in 2020, when online music library Deezer released Spleeter, a stem separation technology which forms the backbone of many online and in-app separation tools available...

About
By electronic drummers,
for electronic drummers.
FROM THE EDITOR
Electronic drums have come a long way since the 1970s and are now seen alongside their acoustic siblings on stages around the world. They also draw crowds at music trade shows and attract strong interest on the floors of music shops.
As an electronic drummer, technology enthusiast and professional writer, I know first-hand how hard it is to be taken seriously when your kit needs a powerpoint and amp. That’s why we launched digitalDrummer in 2010. I wanted to create a communication channel dedicated to this vibrant market and the musicians who are so enthused by the digital opportunities.
Because it is aimed at a niche audience of dedicated enthusiasts, digitalDrummer is able to explore drum technology in great detail, but it is written for drummers, not techno-geeks.
