Developer shares TMI design for free

In a refreshing move for the electronic drumming community, amateur builder and embedded software engineer Tobias Gunkel has released the complete open-source design for his custom trigger-to-MIDI module, EavesDrum. Developed as a personal project to overcome the high cost and perceived lack of innovation in the e-drum market, Gunkel is offering the plans at no charge, inviting DIY enthusiasts to build their own professional-grade module replacement. New module from Alternate Mode

Alternate Mode has launched a new DITI drum module with onboard sounds. The DITI 3 includes 50 kits, each with three percussion instruments laid out across the pads. The 4 GB sound library has the same sound set as the new gigKAT GS EXTended that is offered both internally in malletKATs and as an external sound module. The DITI 3 has balanced stereo ¼” outputs, two ¼” inputs for mixing external sounds to its output, along with a volume-controlled ¼” headphone jack. A single cable HD15 connector simplifies the connection to Alternate Mode’s jamKAT or hybriKIT.  The 12 input jacks, allowing up to 24 triggers, are also available along with the connected jamKAT. New module from KAT

Alternate Mode has released a new sound module, the gigKAT GS EXT. Designed to be triggered by the company’s popular malletKAT controllers, the module replaces the gigKAT GS. The new module features an extensive percussion library including Latin, world percussion, Asian and Middle Eastern percussion as well as an Orchestral Chromatic Percussion Library. Of course, there are also large numbers of vibraphones, marimba and steel pan samples, together with guitars, keys, basses, leads and drums. Performance enhancements include a 7 dB increase in output and significantly improved dynamic range. GEWA launches mid-range kit

German e-drum manufacturer GEWA has released details of its new mid-range kit, the G5 Pro BS. The biggest change from the G9 is the new G5 module which loses the large touch screen and gets a bunch of knobs and dials in its place. The G5 module also sacrifices some of the direct outs of the G9, sporting four direct and two stereo master outs. The new module, which looks like it has the same samples and kits and the flagship brain, is paired with an 18×14” acoustic-style kick drum, three toms (10”, 12” and 14”) and a 14×5” snare.
